This article introduces HDIG's interoperability platform aimed at solving key challenges in medical data exchange. Built on FHIR APIs, the platform provides centralized tools—from secure authentication to consent management and sandbox environments—allowing developers to easily deploy and test APIs. A notable feature is the "Prior Auth API," which digitizes the previously manual and complex prior authorization process. Key functions include Coverage Requirements Discovery (CRD) for checking coverage, Documentation Templates Rules (DTR) for generating required documentation, and Prior Authorization Support (PAS) for submitting requests to payers and managing status. Other APIs enhance data transparency and coordination: The "Patient Access API" allows access to benefits and clinical data based on patient consent. The "Provider Access API" enables specific providers to access member-linked clinical and administrative data for care coordination. Furthermore, the "Payer-to-Payer API" facilitates seamless data sharing between payers, ensuring continuity of care.
