Details

This report details a significant advancement in the digitalization of cervical cancer screening result reporting. Starting December 2025, the Cancer Detection Center (CvKO) will establish a system to automatically transmit results from reimbursed screening swabs via FHIR messages into electronic medical records (EMD). This data linkage is expected to provide rapid and accurate information regarding HPV and cytology results, as well as recommended follow-up actions (e.g., direct referral for colposcopy, 12-month follow-up), specifically to the healthcare institution where the patient was seen by their primary care physician. The specific data elements available include: ① Test type (HPV only, Cytology only, both). ② HPV results (Positive/Negative, high-risk type determination, etc.). ③ Cytology results (Abnormal/Normal, sample quality, etc.). ④ Recommended advice (Normal screening schedule, direct referral for colposcopy, etc.). However, this automatic linkage is limited to reimbursed screening swabs. For diagnostic or follow-up swabs, only the date of collection will continue to be provided. Furthermore, realizing this data flow requires rapid data transmission from the laboratories through BCR to CvKO; some laboratories are expected to transition to this fast data flow after 2026. The system aims to support primary care physicians in planning appropriate follow-up care based on abnormal results.
