Medicom Technologies, a US-based company, announced that it is integrating its enterprise imaging platform directly into the electronic health record (EHR) via a new suite of SMART on FHIR applications available on the Epic Showroom's Connection hub. This integration embeds essential imaging management tools within clinicians' primary workspace, ensuring healthcare providers can access actionable and accurate imaging studies within the EHR before or during ongoing care. The unified approach facilitates quicker and more informed decision-making by providing a thorough contextual history through integrated workflows. Developed in partnership with clinical leaders, the platform is utilized by health systems such as NYU Langone to minimize clinical hurdles and optimize image exchange. Technically, the integration makes Medicom's capabilities accessible within Connection Hub, including checkpoint for importing and validating external studies, and data import for imaging ingestion from physical media. Additional features include patient matching for correct medical record number assignment, secure patient-driven imaging uploads, an API connector for custom integrations, and appending relevant EHR data to outgoing imaging sends. Medicom CEO Michael Rosenberg stated that adopting SMART on FHIR brings image exchange directly into the EHR. He noted that while the technology has existed for years, overcoming change management was the challenge. Embedding it within the clinician's workflow and enhancing patient safety through multipoint matching can help health systems achieve a truly integrated platform for image exchange. The goal of this platform is to improve clinical efficiency and alleviate administrative burdens in healthcare settings.
