The Australian Digital Health Agency (the Agency), in partnership with HL7 Australia, has launched 'FHIRside,' a dynamic new forum aimed at accelerating digital health innovation. The goal is to bring together developers, implementers, and industry experts to solve real-world challenges in health technology. Commencing October 7, 2025, FHIRside will offer weekly sessions for healthcare technology professionals to connect, collaborate, and accelerate the implementation of Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standards. FHIR is an international standard critical for improving the safety, quality, and efficiency of digital health systems across Australia. The Agency's Acting CEO, Peter O’Halloran, stated that the forum will provide a space for participants to connect with HL7 Australia FHIR experts, receive peer support, and ask questions without judgment. The Acting Chief Digital Officer, Danielle Pentony, noted that 'FHIRside' complements formal training by supporting capability uplift and cultivating a shared ecosystem that strengthens cross-organizational collaboration. Participants benefit from direct access to FHIR experts, peer-to-peer learning in a supportive environment, and opportunities for building strong cross-organizational relationships. HL7 Australia Chair David Rowlands emphasized that this hands-on approach embodies the spirit of global health data interoperability through local collaboration. This initiative aligns with the Agency's suite of fully-funded FHIR training courses, providing additional support for those diving into FHIR for the first time and fostering greater practical engagement across Australia’s health sector.
