Details

This article reports on the validation results concerning automated data linking from EHR systems to the Dutch National Cancer Registry (NKR). Since data registration into NKR was traditionally high quality but labor-intensive, IKNL and Performation developed a new infrastructure called R(H)ONDA. This system uses Performation's Datagateway to structure data from various EHR types into a uniform model, regardless of the specific EHR type or version used. Key features include support for three major Dutch EHR systems: HiX, EPIC, and Nexus. The validation study proved that structured data regarding diagnosis, lab values, and treatment can be accurately retrieved via this gateway and made available to NKR faster. Currently, 15 hospitals are supplying clinical records—such as surgical procedures and radiotherapy—to the NKR through a secure FHIR connection in near real-time. Future phases plan to add an even wider range of data types, including imaging techniques and medication information.
