Furthermore, the coexistence of multiple FHIR versions (R4, R4B, R5) complicates interoperability. Although REST APIs are widespread, reliance on legacy mechanisms like HL7 Version 2 persists, emphasizing the need for sustained investment and alignment beyond mere adoption.
