Two prerequisites for this process are standardization and uncompromising security. FHIR is emerging as a key standard for data exchange in healthcare, being incorporated into regulations by governments globally, including the EU's European Health Data Space (EHDS). FHIR is ideal for MedTech because it allows medical devices and systems to communicate standardizedly with EHRs using modern web technologies like REST APIs. This tool allows healthcare organizations to unlock data from their systems (like EHRs) for both primary uses (patient care) and secondary uses (research, policy support).
