This study tackles a core challenge in healthcare interoperability: establishing common standards for both the structured content of healthcare data and its transfer across disparate systems. The proposed solution centers on the use of the HL7 FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) protocol. FHIR is highlighted as a widely adopted framework globally, used to define data content and methods for sharing it. Furthermore, the paper specifically discusses the potential integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with this established HL7 FHIR standard. This topic was identified as a key question arising from the project titled 'Integration of AI in Advancing Interdisciplinary Research at the University of Tirana.' Technically, the research aims to expand the utility of medical information by combining common standards and protocols (FHIR) with advanced analytical capabilities (AI). This goes beyond mere data transfer; it focuses on building a foundation for extracting new insights through AI analysis. In the context of Japanese healthcare IT, FHIR is critically important as an international standard. As Japan advances interoperability between electronic medical records and various information systems, standardization of data formats and APIs is crucial. The perspective discussed here—integrating AI—is highly relevant for advanced application fields such as diagnostic support and personalized medicine. FHIR serves as a vital reference point for building standardized healthcare information exchange infrastructure in Japan.
