Interoperability among various actors in Latin America's health system is advancing using standards such as HL7 FHIR, with examples like the Costa Rican Social Security Agency. However, this progress remains at a low scale. The focus for acceleration involves converging on a concept called “Full-STAC” (Standards, Technologies, Architectures, and Contents). Initiatives like the Pan American Digital Health Route reflect this push. Michael Frost of the University of Oslo actively promotes integrating their foundational DHS2 model—used by many governments—with other health data sources, thereby contributing to national health information systems and promoting standards like FHIR. This includes work with Chile's Ministry of Health. Furthermore, coordinating the diverse array of digital health interventions (from governments, global institutions, private companies, etc.) is challenging due to potential overlap and resource waste. The World Bank’s Global Digital Health Atlas serves as a repository for implementing bodies worldwide to register their initiatives. Both DHS2 and the GDH have established dynamic global communities committed to integration.
