'Connect,' originally known as the FHIR Appliance, is a standards-compliant server that provides core functionality for shared care records. Its primary function is to collect and transform existing medical data from various providers, facilitating its transfer through an 'Exchange.' Key technical features include full implementation of both FHIR Server and FHIR Store, compliant with FHIR STU 3. Data querying supports not only synchronous queries but also asynchronous bulk extracts and event-driven subscriptions. The endpoint configuration is flexible, allowing for dual endpoints (for external vs. internal access). Security measures are robust, supporting HTTPS options, mutual authentication, and message authentication methods like JWT or API keys. Furthermore, it includes the ability to maintain an audit log of all activities as FHIR AuditEvent resources and can automate patient registration using a regional PIX server. The system runs on Linux or Windows Server 2019, utilizing either Postgres or MSSQL databases. For ease of deployment, Dockerization is available. These capabilities enable the realization of standardized data exchange across multiple healthcare institutions and systems based on FHIR standards.
