EHMI Delivery Status (EDS) plays a crucial role in the process of healthcare information exchange. It goes beyond simple message acknowledgments; it records processing events that occur at 'each station' from the sender EUA to the receiver EUA, covering both primary and secondary messaging flows. Specifically, status is registered as FHIR AuditEvents. The system can record two types of statuses: one for patient-related messages (e.g., normal MedCom messages) and another basic delivery status for acknowledgments only (e.g., MedCom Acknowledgments). The EDS Client (which can be an EUA, MSH, or AP) is implemented as a FHIR Device resource, with the server hosting these registered data points. The recorded information includes not only message identifiers but also involved agents (sender/receiver SOR-ID), patient information, event timestamps, and detailed data codes necessary for statistical analysis. This functionality significantly enhances traceability and reliability in healthcare information exchange. Senders' and receivers' EUAs can access all registration details related to messages they were involved in, and patients themselves can query the history of messages concerning them.
