She brings over 25 years of experience in interoperability and health IT standards development. Nelson has been deeply involved in the development of HL7 CDA® and FHIR®. Notably, she served as Technical Director for the Gravity HL7 FHIR Accelerator Project, driving consensus-driven standards for social determinants of health (SDOH) information. Her expertise will strengthen DirectTrust's technical strategy related to Direct Secure Messaging and FHIR. As CTO, Nelson will guide DirectTrust's initiatives—including its trust framework, accreditation programs, and standards efforts (especially those related to FHIR)—to ensure that data exchange is usable for clinicians, patients, healthcare organizations, and technology vendors. This effort aims to improve the safety and widespread adoption of health information exchange.
