AI Not Only for Diagnosis, But Also for Treatment: Evolution and Challenges of Digital Healthcare

The latest trends in digital healthcare using artificial intelligence (AI) were discussed at the CNews Conferences 'Digital Healthcare 2025'. Participants noted that the digitalization of medical data, facilitated by online appointment booking and the spread of electronic health records, allows for a new level of clinical outcome improvement. Experts reported that AI is already being used in 2024 for tasks such as summarizing medical records, diagnostic support, and calculating risk indicators. In particular, oncology involves image analysis (of kidneys and ovaries), assessing cancer progression risk, and outlining during radiation therapy. As a technical foundation, the HL7 FHIR standard was highlighted as crucial for data interoperability. Efforts are underway in Russia to implement FHIR (FHIR Ru Core) and related national standardization work is progressing. Furthermore, companies like 'Mositalmed' utilize AI as an assistant for tasks such as EHR input support and predicting patient return. However, experts also raised cautious opinions, stating that 'AI is not omnipotent' and 'the final decision must be made by a human.' Issues of responsibility and ethical considerations accompanying technological advancement were highlighted as key challenges.
