Australia is currently advancing its digital health journey via the 'Sparked FHIR Accelerator programme,' a collaborative effort led by CSIRO’s AEHRC and supported by the Department of Health. The core goal is establishing national standards to ensure seamless and secure exchange of health information, addressing the critical need for interoperability between diverse healthcare systems. A major milestone has been the release of the AU Core FHIR Implementation Guide. This guide sets foundational standards for formatting and exchanging health data, incorporating real-world input from clinicians and technologists alike. It is designed as a 'living resource' open to continuous feedback. The program’s strength lies in its community model, bringing together over 100 diverse stakeholders—including government, industry, and clinicians. This collaborative environment allows for the co-development of standards through various engagement methods (meetings, events).
