Google Unveils Android 16: Enhanced Health Data Sharing and Smart Features

Google presented early information on 'Android 16' through a special event called The Android Show, bypassing the traditional developer conference. This new OS, codenamed 'Baklava,' is expected to be officially released in July of next year. A major technical focus is improving the health data sharing experience. Specifically, the 'Health Connect 2.0' platform will be significantly enhanced, ensuring adherence to the FHIR standard for medical data exchange while boosting user privacy protection. This allows developers to handle health data in a more secure and standardized manner. Other features include an 'Image Selector,' which enhances privacy by allowing users to select photos/videos without granting apps full access to the media library. Furthermore, it improves adaptability for large and foldable screens, and includes enhancements for Bluetooth LE Audio (such as spatial audio and microphone switching). In terms of security, Android 16 will prevent AI tools from appearing in sensitive fields like passwords. The platform also expands identity verification capabilities beyond Pixel and Samsung devices. Google anticipates further developments, including deeper integration of Gemini AI technology and advancements in Android XR.
