From Compliance to Collaboration: Adapcare Builds Connected Care Platform with Firely

Adapcare, a Dutch healthcare IT provider, faced the challenge of complying with national regulations (such as MedMij and VIPP) and implementing standards like e-Overdracht. Initially driven by legal mandates, their goal was to establish a standardized way for secure patient data exchange. They adopted Firely Server as the FHIR backend, which allowed them not only to meet compliance requirements but also to build CACAO—a cross-organizational platform powering real-time, secure data sharing across 25+ care institutions. This platform aggregates patient data from various EHR systems using FHIR APIs (e.g., via Open Health Hub). It provides a 360° patient view with role-based filtering and integrates with the Dutch MITZ system for consent management. The technical architecture supports cross-institutional workflows like messaging and task management, ensuring that care providers only see information relevant to their role and the patient’s consent. Adapcare is now transitioning toward a microservices-based architecture, positioning Firely Server as a crucial foundation for future scalability and innovation in Dutch healthcare IT.
