Korea's Medical Data Transmission Technology 'KR Core V2' to be Officially Standardized

According to the Korea Health Information Service (KHIS), 'KR Core V2' is a medical data transmission technology used in domestic hospitals, set to be officially registered as a standard starting in September. This announcement is based on practical demonstration tests conducted during the recent HL7 Korea event, 'FHIR Connectathon.' A total of seven healthcare institutions and companies participated in the test, successfully exchanging medical information using KR Core V2 without any issues. It was particularly praised that 'KR Core V2' was developed to represent critical information—such as those related to surgeries/procedures, tests, and specimens—that are frequently handled in real clinical settings, with greater accuracy and consistency. Following the official standardization of this technology, KHIS plans to fully promote the adoption of FHIR-based medical data standards by linking them with various policy projects, including Electronic Medical Record (EMR) certification systems, health information highways, and clinical data exchange. Furthermore, the 'KR Core V2' support tool used at the HL7 Korea FHIR Connectathon is expected to be provided through the Health Information Standard Management System (HINS) next year, making it available to developers and healthcare institutions both domestically and internationally. The official standardization of this technology is considered a significant achievement that simultaneously realizes the advancement and internationalization of domestic medical data technical standards, forming a core foundation for improving medical data quality and building an interoperability ecosystem. The KHIS executive stated that they will continue to provide medical data standards covering terminology, formats, and technologies, committing to promoting national standards and supporting field implementation.
