South Korea has built one of the most sophisticated digital healthcare ecosystems globally. At its core is 'My HealthWay,' a national platform serving as a Personal Health Record (PHR). As of 2024, this platform integrates data from 1263 medical institutions and provides access to 113 types of health data across 12 categories. Key technical features include adherence to the FHIR standard for seamless exchange, blockchain-based authentication, and real-time synchronization with over 860 facilities. A second pillar is 'BESTCare,' a hospital information system developed by Seoul National University Bundang Hospital (SNUBH). This comprehensive system includes core applications like Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE), alongside advanced components such as Clinical Data Warehouse (CDW), Health Information Exchange (HIE), and Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) integration. A notable achievement is the high level of implementation of Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS). These systems provide real-time alerts for drug interactions, automate clinical pathways, and offer standardized treatment protocols. The reported adoption rates significantly exceed global averages, making this model highly relevant for improving data interoperability and care coordination in other countries, including Japan.
