Advancing Staff Safety: Midmark CareFlow RTLS Staff Duress Under Construction in Epic Toolbox

Midmark RTLS, a leading real-time locating system (RTLS) technology provider, announced that its staff safety solution, CareFlow RTLS Staff Duress, is being integrated into the new Staff Duress category in Epic Toolbox. This integration enhances staff safety by allowing Midmark RTLS badges to send location-aware staff duress alerts into Epic using HL7 FHIR-based APIs. When staff face threats, pressing a button on the badge delivers a location-based alert to Epic, identifying who needs help and where for quick response. The system utilizes Epic's push notification framework to notify designated security groups with both the staff member's name and precise location. Responders can acknowledge or decline alerts directly within Epic. CareFlow offers three advantages: ease of use (leveraging existing RTLS badges), effective locating/alerting (real-time data on who, when, where), and empowering work environment (providing peace of mind). The platform supports both Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and infrared (IR) technologies, allowing flexible installation with minimal disruption. This new duress integration builds upon Midmark's existing successful integrations with Epic, which already provide real-time location data for care teams in Epic, improving patient flow management, automating bed assignments, and accurately timestamping patient events in the EMR using location data. The solution is designed to address heightened workplace violence in healthcare settings.
