Roundtrip, a leading healthcare transportation technology company, launched a new FHIR-powered integration connected to Epic. Developed with an integrated health system in Northern California, this solution connects booking workflows with member eligibility and transportation benefit management. The goal is full visibility across all user groups regarding transportation requests, utilization, and status. It ensures compliance with California's Medi-Cal requirements and federal OIG controls. Chrisna Govin stated that the integration closes critical gaps between the health system, health plan, and patients, creating a single source of truth for transportation data while simplifying ride booking. The solution helps partners maximize benefits, enhance accountability, and improve the patient/member experience by embedding closed-loop workflows into existing Epic environments. Early results show operational improvements, allowing care teams to shift focus from manual phone coordination to higher-priority tasks, all while maintaining compliant documentation to reduce fraud, waste, and abuse. Future plans include linking Medical Necessity Certification Statement approvals and encounter data into a unified workflow, along with launching an embedded SMART on FHIR application within Epic for seamless access to transportation management.
