Telstra Health to Lead Overhaul of My Health Record Data Architecture

Telstra Health, alongside Leidos Australia and Smile Digital Health, has been contracted to lead the data architecture overhaul for the Australian government's My Health Record (MHR). This $33.2 million contract involves building platform capabilities and infrastructure integrations, as tendered by the Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA). The core of the new architecture is based on FHIR resources, an international standard designed to make health data modular, accessible, and shareable. The solution will enable FHIR-based data exchange within MHR while operating in parallel with existing Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) formats, supporting both legacy and modern systems. According to ADHA, the goal is to solve obstacles faced by healthcare providers when extracting specific, actionable data from CDA documents, which currently causes inefficiencies and hampers seamless information flow. This initiative is part of a broader overhaul plan by ADHA to consolidate MHR and its API Gateway into a single support contract, reflecting a re-evaluation of the decade-long National Infrastructure Operator (NIO) arrangement previously held by Accenture since 2012.
