Epic Unveils New Interoperability Features and Developer Tools for Patients, Providers

Epic previewed several interoperability features and developer tools at its Open@Epic conference, aimed at significantly improving data sharing. Major announcements include the nationwide rollout of MyChart Central, which will allow patients to use a single Epic-issued ID to connect their MyChart records across multiple providers (expected completion later this year). This feature enables comprehensive health data access via one login, supported by biometric sign-in and connectivity with Bluetooth Generic Health Sensors for home devices. For developers, the company highlighted updates to Open.Epic, a web portal providing over 800 free API specifications. Epic also plans to release additional APIs to strengthen provider-payer communication, such as prior authorization APIs (Feb 2026), and staff duress APIs for location-aware alerts supporting clinical safety. Furthermore, Epic made the Clarity data model available for licensing to support AI and population health applications. The company is also preparing to support United States Core Data for Interoperability v5, which standardizes information exchange for advanced directives, medication adherence, and diagnostic images. Developer experience was enhanced with new guides and expanded sandbox testing capabilities.
