30th HL7 FHIR Connectathon Report: Validating Exchange of ePI and IPS

This ongoing series of events, hosted by Global Health Connector, is designed to test the exchange and display of electronic Product Information (ePI) and the International Patient Summary (IPS) as FHIR documents. Phase 3 specifically involved testing these complex data types across multiple Connectathon phases. The goal is to progressively increase the complexity of both the product information and the healthcare/life scenarios tested. The event targets a diverse group, including app developers, electronic health record vendors, business developers, and pharmaceutical company staff, encouraging them to develop solutions for interoperability. By focusing on ePI and IPS—which represent detailed product data and comprehensive patient summaries, respectively—the Connectathon addresses critical technical challenges in standardizing and exchanging complex healthcare information across disparate systems and organizations. This initiative serves as a crucial proving ground using the FHIR standard, allowing industry stakeholders to contribute to interoperability by developing concrete solutions for advanced patient data sharing.
