KV-Connect to be Discontinued on October 20, 2025: Transition to KIM and Implementation of FHIR-Based Interfaces

The communication service KV-Connect has been utilized in the German healthcare IT system for over a decade. This service was central to various electronic communications, including billing (Abrechnungen), doctor's letters (Arztbriefe), and the transmission of DMP documentation. However, as an interoperable standard defined by Gematik—KIM (Kommunikation im Medizinwesen)—has been established for data exchange, KV-Connect is being phased out. KV.Digital has maintained continuous communication with stakeholders regarding this transition. The complete shift to KIM is required across all relevant systems. For every application previously using KV-Connect, such as '1-Click Billing,' eArztbrief, and eNachricht, specifications for transmission via KIM are provided. A particularly critical change involves the interface for requesting routing codes within the 116117 appointment service, which has been replaced by a new FHIR-based specification. All PVS (Electronic Patient Record) manufacturers are mandated to implement this new FHIR-based interface by September 30, 2025. Furthermore, existing KVDT certified PVS providers have received certification for '1-Click Billing' via KIM. This transition highlights the standardization and improvement of interoperability within the German healthcare IT landscape.
