Humana Inc., an insurance company, and Providence, a Washington-based health system, are collaborating on an initiative to standardize data exchange for value-based care. They leverage national HL7 FHIR standards, Da Vinci Project Implementation Guides, and modern APIs to enhance interoperability between payers and providers. The initial phase focuses on automating member attribution for Humana Medicare Advantage members. This capability allows providers to quickly and accurately identify patients under their care, eliminating manual processes and improving care coordination. Future phases plan to expand data exchange capabilities further, aiming to reduce administrative burdens and enhance clinical decision-making. By automating the exchange of clinical data, the initiative seeks to close quality care gaps and minimize manual efforts like chart chasing.
