Humana and Providence announced a new data sharing ecosystem, stating it could become a blueprint for the entire industry. The initial rollout will focus on automating member attribution for Humana Medicare Advantage members. Beyond reducing administrative burden, the collaboration aims to bolster clinical decision-making capabilities. A representative from Humana stated that 'true interoperability' must serve clinicians, patients, and payers alike. They are building a shared foundation of administrative, financial, and clinical data using national standards and modern technology. Specifically, they are utilizing HL7 Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) and Da Vinci Project Implementation Guides, along with other 'modern' APIs to build out their infrastructure. This framework is described as easily replicable and capable of transforming care across the healthcare industry. The initiative also aligns with regulatory goals set by CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services), which requires networks to provide data access through FHIR APIs by July 4, 2026. The partnership supports the trend where payers must implement API capabilities to open up fragmented data systems.
