Humana and Providence, a Washington-based health system, have partnered on an initiative designed to streamline and secure data exchange between payers and providers. This collaboration aims to establish a scalable ecosystem for standardized and secure data sharing. The effort leverages national HL7 Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standards, Da Vinci Project Implementation Guides, and modern APIs. The goal is to provide clinicians with actionable insights while reducing administrative complexity and protecting patient privacy. This proactive move anticipates upcoming federal regulations, such as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Interoperability and Patient Access Rule, which will mandate standardized, secure access to health data. The first phase involves automated member attribution for Humana Medicare Advantage members, eliminating manual processes and improving care coordination. Both organizations are among 60 entities pledging adoption of the CMS Digital Health Ecosystem, aligning with federal interoperability priorities and a patient-centric healthcare model. They anticipate this framework will serve as an easily replicable, scalable model for the national healthcare industry.
