Details

Seoul Asan Hospital announced the full implementation of its 'Health Information Highway' service on December 12th. This system empowers patients to view and share their own medical records at any time. The project is spearheaded by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, utilizing data from multiple healthcare providers. A key feature is that users can safely and efficiently transmit selected data based on their explicit consent. The service, which has been operational since September 2023, currently includes 47 tertiary general hospitals and 1,269 medical institutions nationwide. Seoul Asan Hospital had previously served as the hub storage and main institution since July of last year in preparation for the full launch. Technically, a cloud environment compliant with the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standard was established to ensure the secure delivery of medical information to users. Patients can use the mobile application 'My Health Records' to view, save, and share records, including personal information, hospital details, diagnosis history, drug prescription history, test results, and surgical history. Hospital representatives stated that this allows patients to actively utilize their data for health promotion and disease prevention as data owners. Furthermore, it is expected to enhance the quality of medical care by allowing practitioners to reference records received from other hospitals.
