HealthEx and Anthropic Partner to Bring Personal Health Records Directly to Claude

HealthEx and Anthropic announced a new integration enabling Claude Pro and Max users to securely connect their medical records from more than 50,000 provider organizations directly to the AI. The system is built upon the federal TEFCA interoperability framework and HealthEx’s Model Context Protocol (MCP). HealthEx acts as a unifying connector for fragmented healthcare data, consolidating patient records through FHIR patient-access APIs and federal interoperability infrastructure. Using MCP, Claude retrieves only the specific portions of a medical record needed to answer a question—such as a lab trend or medication list—rather than accessing an entire file. Users verify their identity using biometrics and government-issued ID, retaining granular control over what information Claude can access. A strict privacy-first design ensures that health data connected through HealthEx is not stored in Claude’s long-term memory and is never used for model training. The integration aims to help patients better understand and act on their health information, aligning with the broader industry push for trusted AI care navigation as a partner in healthcare decision-making.
