iSOFT Netherlands plays a central role in the Dutch digital health ecosystem, providing services across primary care (MicroHIS used by ~10% of GP practices), hospitals (Rhapsody interoperability platform), and clinical decision support. However, iSOFT recognized that its existing FHIR infrastructure was becoming a bottleneck, lacking the performance and scalability needed for its expanding portfolio. To address this, iSOFT selected Firely Server as its new FHIR backbone. The solution was fully integrated into its healthcare ecosystem and operational within just four months. Key benefits included quick implementation (four months), easy integration with existing architecture, and built-in compliance with Dutch specifications. By consolidating multiple FHIR initiatives onto a single platform, iSOFT streamlined onboarding, reduced integration complexity, and freed up developer capacity. This enables faster, more secure data exchange across GP practices, hospitals, and third-party apps like personal health environments (PGOs). Looking ahead, iSOFT plans to expand secure data sharing into complex areas such as medication processes (MP9) and hospital systems, support more connections to PGOs, and utilize FHIR-based data for smarter clinical decision support. This project represents a significant step toward better-connected care and improved outcomes across the Dutch healthcare system.
