JAMI's Standards Committee Establishes 'ePath HL7 FHIR Study Group'

The Japanese Society for Medical Informatics (JAMI) Standards Establishment and Maintenance Committee announced the formation of the 'ePath HL7 FHIR Study Group.' This initiative aims to create a FHIR specification using the existing 'ePath Data Elements and Structure Specification' (JAMISDP04), which has been developed through projects like those funded by MHLW/Kakenhi and the Cabinet Office Bridge program. The primary objectives of this Working Group are twofold: first, to establish the resulting output as a JAMI standard; and second, to apply for HELICS guidelines. Key members include representatives from major organizations such as IDIAL, JAHIS, and IHE-J, along with researchers from various universities and hospitals. This effort is crucial for structuring data exchange infrastructure (ePath) within Japanese electronic health records and aligning it with the internationally recognized FHIR standard. This integration is expected to significantly advance domestic medical information interoperability by basing it on a globally accepted standard, thereby contributing to future digital healthcare initiatives.
