Azerbaijan Unveils Medical Digital Twin System to Advance Health Management

The 'Medical Digital Twin System' (SMCD) presented by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Health is a comprehensive national digital platform. Built upon international standards such as FHIR, it allows for the centralized collection and continuous exchange of individual citizen health data through unified electronic registries. This aims to reduce unnecessary repeat tests and visits while improving overall social equity and reducing healthcare costs. The system incorporates AI capabilities to predict population health status and manage crisis situations. Furthermore, the integration of a single electronic medical record (EHR) across the country has been completed, making paper records obsolete. The platform also enables proactive notifications for preventative measures like immunization and screening.
