Details
InterSystems announced FHIR Agent Studio, a developer portal designed for building, running, and inspecting AI agents within FHIR workflows. It operates on a single InterSystems IRIS for Health backend. The studio enables the creation of small clinical workflows: Trigger $\rightarrow$ Evidence (FHIR / SQL / Vector Search) $\rightarrow$ Agent (LLM) $\rightarrow$ Action (draft FHIR) $\rightarrow$ Trace. The demo utilizes a synthetic FHIR repository containing approximately 1,000 patients and over 20,000 resources, featuring twelve working agents alongside clinician-facing and patient phone apps. Key technical features include real IRIS native Vector Search over a payer-policy knowledge base, ensuring genuine model embeddings are used rather than keyword fallbacks. Furthermore, all clinical and administrative write-backs are drafts requiring human review. The system replicates actual interoperability production flows with genuine Business Services, Processes, and Operations. Users can view the entire process flow, including message traces and visual trace, using a read-only account in the Management Portal, confirming that every step is traceable. This platform allows developers to validate AI integration with FHIR workflows in an environment closely simulating real-world use, providing deep visibility into the entire operational process.
