InterSystems has partnered with Medistim's MiraQ™ Doppler Flowmeter System to build a comprehensive data management solution for cardiac surgery, leveraging the FHIR standard. The primary challenge addressed is the isolation of critical medical device data (e.g., vascular flow monitoring) from the hospital's central data center. While Medistim’s MiraQ™ system provides real-time feedback using High Frequency Ultrasound and TTFM technology during surgery, this data was previously difficult to integrate into comprehensive hospital records. The solution utilizes HL7 FHIR, a modern standard for healthcare data exchange. By employing granular resources like FHIR Observation, the system transforms quantitative clinical observation metrics into structured, analyzable information, moving beyond simple record-keeping. InterSystems' IRIS platform deeply supports this FHIR standard, enabling seamless connectivity between the MiraQ™ device and the hospital HIS (Electronic Health Record System). This facilitates a closed-loop management process: pre-operative data seeding, automated intra-operative data collection, and post-operative review.
