NHA Integrates Google's AI into Aarogya Setu 2.0 for Health Records

The National Health Authority (NHA) has updated the Aarogya Setu 2.0 application by integrating Google's AI capabilities. Using Google's open model, Gemma 4, and the Medical Data Toolkit, the app can now process unstructured medical records to build comprehensive digital health profiles. Specifically, the toolkit enables the identification and extraction of key information—such as laboratory test names, methods, and results—from both text and images. Crucially, this extracted data is converted into the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) format, an international standard. This standardized format is designed to facilitate seamless sharing of health records across hospitals and healthcare providers, supporting interoperability under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). Furthermore, Google has open-sourced the Medical Data Toolkit for developers and organizations. This allows them to digitize and standardize legacy medical records while ensuring compliance with India's national health interoperability standards. NHA emphasizes that all personal health information remains under the user's control. This collaboration strengthens India's Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for healthcare, marking a significant step toward promoting both domestic and global healthcare innovation.
