Google Integrates AI Models into Aarogya Setu 2.0, Enhancing India's Digital Health Records

By integrating its AI models into the Aarogya Setu 2.0 app, Google allows users to extract critical clinical information from unstructured medical records (such as scanned reports, handwritten notes, and PDFs). The process utilizes Gemma 4 AI models and the Medical Data Toolkit to identify data points—including laboratory test names, testing methods, and results—from both text- and image-based documents. This extracted information is then converted into the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standard, an internationally recognized framework that ensures consistent data exchange across different healthcare providers. This initiative supports seamless interoperability under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), aiming to strengthen India's digital health ecosystem and Digital Public Infrastructure. Google has also open-sourced the Medical Data Toolkit for developers and healthcare organizations at no cost, helping digitize legacy medical records while maintaining compatibility with ABDM standards.
