Aarogya Setu 2.0 Gets Google AI Upgrade for Digital Health Records

The National Health Authority (NHA) upgraded the 'Aarogya Setu 2.0' app using Google's artificial intelligence technology. This integration enables the identification and analysis of important details—such as laboratory test names, methods, and results—from various types of unstructured records, including text-based documents and medical images. A key feature is the conversion of this extracted information into the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) format. This standardized FHIR format supports seamless exchange of health records among hospitals and healthcare providers under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), significantly enhancing interoperability. Google also open-sourced the 'Medical Data Toolkit,' allowing developers and healthcare organizations to use the technology free of cost. This facilitates the digitization and standardization of older medical records, ensuring compliance with India's healthcare interoperability standards. Furthermore, all health records and personal information stored in Aarogya Setu 2.0 remain under the user's control, guaranteeing privacy and data ownership. Through this initiative, Google aims to strengthen India's Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and give citizens greater control over their health journeys.
