The Korea Health Information Institute announced the commencement of a pilot project aimed at establishing EMR certification standards for applying healthcare data standards. This effort utilizes 'KR Core,' which is a Korean-developed core exchange data transmission standard based on HL7 FHIR, to validate its practical application in actual EMR environments. Historically, limitations in inter-institutional data linkage and exchange existed due to variations in data generation methods, management approaches, and standard adoption levels across different medical institutions and their respective EMR systems. Through this pilot project, KHII intends to establish a standard-based EMR certification system, thereby building the foundation for enhanced healthcare data interoperability. The key verification areas include: verifying data creation and validity; demonstrating data exchange based on FHIR standard APIs; and analyzing the acceptability of certification standards across different hospital sizes. The pilot project is scheduled from July to November of this year. KHII plans to analyze technical constraints and improvement requirements encountered in actual EMR operations, laying the groundwork for future certification standard finalization and standard dissemination. The institute stated that this system will be a crucial foundation for the adoption of a standard-based EMR certification system, aiming to foster a systematic verification process that enhances data interoperability based on KR Core and builds a safe, citizen-centric healthcare data exchange ecosystem.
