FHIR

Next-generation healthcare data exchange standard

Overview

FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) is a standard for exchanging electronic health records developed by HL7. It adopts modern web technologies (RESTful API, JSON/XML) and is characterized by ease of implementation.

Relationship with other standards

FHIR defines the "structure and exchange method" of information. For the semantics of the content, it is used in combination with terminology standards such as SNOMED CT and LOINC.
